Tour D'Abernethy and Clips and Tips

We haven’t reached out in a while
So we just wanted to update you on the latest news from VCC.

Tour D’Abernethy Camp Oochigeas charity ride a grand success!

The inaugural Tour D’Abernethy in support of Camp Oochigeas and in memory of Jim was a grand success. The club and its members participated in the fund raising goal of $50,000 which currently stands at 97% of the goal. The genesis of the event started outside the club but we are so happy that we were asked to participate.

We had +35  riders from within the club and from Jim’s friends and family over three separate groups. Jim’s wife Cathy was present and his daughter and her friends did the more challenging 160km ride. Beaver Valley Ski Club made their top of the hill venue available and we we had a beautiful day.

There are too many in the club to thank but Rich, Chris and Denise deserve special mention and the rest know who they are and their efforts were truly appreciated.

Clips and Tips rides

We reinvigorated Clips and Tips this past weekend with three riders new to club riding. We had three club members also participating to ensure we had great coverage for engagement and skills transferring. Two of the three have now joined the club and fingers crossed on a third.

We are committed to continuing this program through September so if anyone knows a rider who has been hesitant to try a club ride for whatever reason please have them reach out to info@www.velocitycyclingclub.com and we will schedule a ride for them. The ride we did was shorter and at lower speed so that all could participate and leave with a smile on their face.

HOLD THESE DATES – Future featured rides

Steve Hancock Memorial Ride (Saturday September 12th)

We plan to incorporate this ride into our normal Saturday morning ride by amending the route to take us through the airport.

Tanya’s Ride for Brain Injury (Saturday October 3rd)

Tanya’s Ride is being held in memory of Tanya with a view to also being a fund raiser for the Brain Injury Society of Toronto (https://bist.ca/).

More details will be forthcoming as we get closer to the date.  At the present time we are considering hosting one road and one gravel ride option.

Things to look forward to
